Get to Know an SLA Chapter: Spotlight on Rocky Mountain Chapter

The air may be thin up where the SLA Rocky Mountain Chapter is, but they are chock full of activities and professional development opportunities.  About a dozen Legal Division members live within the geographic boundaries of the Rocky Mountain Chapter, including one of our current LD Executive Board Directors, Dagfinn Senturia!  Established in 1951, RMSLA is the home chapter for members in the states of Colorado, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.  Over 130 members strong, they have really come to the forefront of the SLA national scene lately with their strong professional development programs via webinar as well as their Virtual Lunch Series.

RMSLA knows the challenges of engaging members who are dispersed over a large geographic area.  Director Connie Clem explained how they are utilizing technology to bring their members together, “Overall, we’re focusing on doing more with our communications – both for chapter member value and to express SLA’s value to potential members (and potential vendor partners). For example, we are aiming for regular blog posts on member profiles, tech profiles, and book reviews. Twitter and Facebook accounts are in their second year. We reach out to graduate programs and regional library/info groups to let them know about our programs.”

Some LD members are librarians at these law libraries of note within the boundaries of the Rocky Mountain Chapter:

(As you recall, the Legal Division’s August Diversity topic was about Native American law.  You do recall that, right?  Oh, just humor me.)

No Rocky Mountain oysters were harmed in the writing of this spotlight.

Happy trails to you,
