After an unintended hiatus, the Legal Division’s “Get to Know an SLA Chapter” has returned!  This time, we have Georgia on our mind. The Georgia Chapter celebrated their 60^th anniversary in 2012 and is over 100 members strong. Crack open some peanuts and get to know our members from the Empire State of the South.

The state of Georgia is well-represented by the Legal Division executive board! It’s the home state of Chair Tricia Thomas and the University of Georgia is the alma mater of Chair-Elect Caroline Jones.

Despite their preferences for rival college football teams, Tricia supports the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Caroline loves her Georgia Bulldogs, they have put those differences aside for the sake of SLA.

Twenty-six Legal Division members reside in the Peach State.  Here, Chapter President (and Legal Division Awards Committee Chair) Sarah Mauldin explains the make-up of the Georgia Chapter members:

Georgia Chapter members come from a wide range of library types and from all over the state.  While most members are in the Atlanta metro area, we have members spread throughout the state in  Savannah, Augusta, Tifton, Valdosta, Newton, Athens and even smaller towns.  We also have members at  Fort Stewart, Fort Benning, and Robins Air Force Base.

Our members work in all kinds of settings including academia (law, theology, engineering and technology, business, etc.), public libraries, military libraries, law firms, consulting companies, accounting firms, industry, scientific research centers, archives, and well known entities like the Federal Reserve, Coca Cola, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Turner Broadcasting/CNN, and Delta Airlines.

I could really go for some Southern Style Georgia Pecan Pie right about now, couldn’t you?!
