This debt collector called me before my agreement and she called me on a number I did not provide to them. I also gave them my cell phone number and ask them to only call me on my cell, and they called my parents house. Was my rights violated?

I was wondering if a debt collector is allowed to ring a family member of mine and tell them that they are calling because I have put them down for a Job reference. Then ask them to verify my address.
Yes, I am totally aware I am in debt, yes I am aware it needs to be paid.
I was after some legal advice, ot a lecture on financial planning.

My family has recently been transferred to a debt collector so far for only 300 dollars. Both of my parents are unemployed and my mom is very sick so the medical bill are piling up. Can they legally take away our car or our house? What if we fall more in debt?

Great posting! I think you need to add, be respectful of copyright. There are a number of vendors who troll the list-serves looking for copyright violators. Publishers have been known to send cease and desist letters to the list-serve and members who are asking for copies of pricey newsletters.

Joan, this list is really helpful and comprehensive! It will be especially useful for training new employees.

To assist with the sixth point, I created a Contact List in MS Outlook with contacts for all of the vendors of IP-authenticated resources so that I just send one email, with the Contact List bcc’ed, when there is a change to our IP addresses.

Something else to keep track of – as if there wasn’t enough already! – are auto-renewal clauses. Our policy is to negotiate their removal from agreements, which has been surprisingly successful, but when we’re not able to, we set up alerts (both through MS Outlook and through the ILS) as reminders.
